Summary
After finishing lessons at Rebel Blue, Luke walks toward the Big House and spots Emmy unloading her truck at the small cabin. Struck by how much she has changed since leaving Meadowlark, he offers to help, noticing the volume of belongings that implies a longer stay.
When Luke asks, Emmy admits she is moving back, though she’s uncertain about racing. Their joking banter eases the tension as they haul boxes inside, and Luke finds himself drawn to her confidence and independence.
While they work, Emmy asks about the bar, and Luke reveals he owns The Devil’s Boot, inherited from his late father, Jimmy. The admission stirs Luke’s complicated feelings about being neglected by Jimmy, while Emmy offers sincere condolences, acknowledging the confusion of grieving someone distant.
As the music shifts and the cabin fills with boxes, Emmy trips and cuts her forearm. Luke calms her blood aversion, cleans and bandages the wound, and the intimacy of the moment pulls them toward a kiss.
Wes arrives with Emmy’s bedding, breaking the spell. Luke covers, declines dinner, and leaves for the bar, rattled by how close he came to kissing his best friend’s sister and resolving that it cannot happen again.
