Overview
Nezha holds Rin as she dies and realizes Kitay has also perished through their bond. Grieving yet resolute, Nezha accepts the responsibility for the shattered empire Rin leaves behind. He resolves to navigate Hesperian domination by bending and resisting as needed, and stands to meet the incoming fleet.
Summary
On the sands of Speer, Nezha cradles Rin’s dying body, stunned by her smallness and the sudden stillness that follows her last breath. He understands that Kitay has died as well, felled by the bond that tied him to Rin the instant Nezha’s blade entered her heart.
Torn between relief and grief, Nezha forces himself to believe the world is safer without Rin, even as he aches to howl over her body. He recognizes that Rin chose this end and, by doing so, chose to leave him with an unbearable legacy.
Surveying the broken state of Nikan, Nezha acknowledges how Rin exposed and shattered the false unity of the empire—destroying warlords, aristocracy, and the old order. In razing the past, she cleared the board, leaving him both a ruin and a rare chance to rebuild.
Accepting that Nikan’s survival now runs through Hesperia, Nezha resolves to bend strategically and strike back carefully to preserve what remains of Nikara culture. He lowers Rin to the ground, stands, and steels himself to face the approaching Hesperian fleet.
