Overview
Alone after the day’s turmoil, Amara obsesses over her near-kiss with Ezra until he visits to apologize and clarify the rules are for her safety. Their mutual attraction culminates in a decisive, passionate kiss. Ezra’s shadows surge before he departs, confirming their bond and resetting trust between them.
Summary
Back in her room, Amara struggles to eat as she replays the day: her uncharacteristic wandering, the danger with the vox, Ezra’s rescue, and their almost-kiss cut short by Gil. She fixates on whether Ezra’s feelings are genuine or a momentary impulse, and on how he found her.
Poppy briefly delivers dinner and leaves, and Amara continues to spiral until a knock reveals Ezra. He calmly apologizes for his anger and explains the castle rules exist to protect Amara, not imprison her. Amara also apologizes, promising not to wander again.
As Ezra turns to go, Amara asks what other reasons fueled his reaction. Ezra closes the distance, admits that if something happened to her he “couldn’t do this,” and kisses her. The kiss deepens as Amara reciprocates, confirming mutual desire and trust restored.
Ezra’s shadows flare with the intensity of the moment. He ends the encounter with a tender goodnight and disappears into his shadows, leaving Amara with the certainty of his feelings and the promise to see her tomorrow.
