Overview
Jeremiah learns Laurel has called Adam Fisher and is hosting him for breakfast to discuss the house. Laurel enlists Jeremiah to shop, then pointedly rebukes him for letting Belly drink. Jeremiah apologizes and vows to look out for Belly, restoring some trust as they prepare for Adam’s arrival.
Summary
Jeremiah intercepts Belly upstairs and hears that Laurel has called Adam Fisher. Encouraged, Jeremiah rushes down to find Laurel cleaning and announcing Adam is coming for breakfast, asking Jeremiah to buy eggs, bacon, muffin mix, and grapefruit.
Surprised Laurel is cooking for Adam, Jeremiah blurts that he sometimes hates his father. Laurel admits she sometimes does too, skipping any platitudes, which Jeremiah notes as her no-nonsense honesty. He thanks her with a bear hug, and she reaffirms she would do anything for the boys.
Laurel then reveals Belly called her drunk and reprimands Jeremiah for allowing it, saying she counts on him. Feeling guilty, Jeremiah apologizes, explaining the stress over the house sale and their last night, and promises it won’t happen again on his watch.
Laurel remains skeptical but softens. Jeremiah jokes to coax a smile, and Laurel eventually smiles back, sending him to the store as they brace for Adam’s arrival and the looming conversation about the house.
