Overview
Mr. Fisher confronts Conrad, Jeremiah, and Belly about interfering with the house sale, revealing a realtor is involved. Conrad lashes out, accuses his father of abandoning Susannah, and admits he rushed to Cousins to stop the sale. Jeremiah feels betrayed for being kept in the dark and storms out. With Mr. Fisher returning and Conrad resigned to a legal stall, the house’s fate—and the brothers’ relationship—hangs in the balance.
Summary
Jeremiah and Conrad return from surfing to find Mr. Fisher with Belly. Inside, Mr. Fisher demands answers, citing a call from realtor Sandy Donatti and accusing them of interfering with the sale. Jeremiah is shocked to learn a realtor exists; Conrad declares the house isn’t Mr. Fisher’s to sell and refuses to engage on money.
Tensions erupt when Mr. Fisher claims Susannah wanted the sale. Conrad, enraged, punches the wall and condemns his father for abandoning the family. Mr. Fisher insists the movers will return and leaves to stay at an inn, promising to come back in the morning.
Afterward, Jeremiah confronts Conrad for keeping the sale secret. Conrad explains he rushed to Cousins after hearing Sandy’s message about movers, revealing he came to protect the house. The brothers argue about loyalty and their father; Jeremiah lands a hurtful jab about Conrad’s absence, then apologizes. Accusations of jealousy escalate until Jeremiah storms out.
Left alone, Belly tells Conrad he was out of line and that keeping Jeremiah in the dark was wrong. Conrad worries yet maintains the sale is driven by Mr. Fisher’s greed. When Belly asks what’s next, Conrad considers getting a lawyer to stall but doubts it will work, dismissing summer school and walking outside, leaving the conflict unresolved.
