The swarm in Jellit’s body confesses to Dafyd that Else is not dead but lives within it. To prove continuity, the swarm manifests black motes beneath its skin and recounts intimate memories from Anjiin. Dafyd’s physiological shock hardens into confusion and fear as he questions what the swarm truly is.

Trying to bridge the gap, the swarm explains it left Else’s body and moved to Jellit when Jellit refused cooperation, insisting the essence that “matters” continued. Else’s voice urges understanding, while Jellit’s inner commentary remains cynical. Dafyd presses whether it was ever “just Else,” and recoils at the swarm’s nature.

Before their confrontation can resolve, a Rak-hund and four Soft Lothark appear, having overheard. The swarm weighs revealing itself in violence to protect Dafyd but holds back, recognizing the futility and risk.

The Soft Lothark spokesperson announces Carryx reassignment: their clan group will provide Dafyd with physical security, with the Rak-hund dedicated to his personal protection. Dafyd, stunned, realizes Ekur has elevated his status by assigning guards.

With guards in place and Dafyd’s horror unresolved, the swarm recognizes the fragile moment has passed. Seeking to avoid escalation and give Dafyd space, it withdraws at his suggestion, leaving their relationship fractured and Dafyd newly guarded by alien enforcers.
