CHAPTER SIX
Overview
Before dawn, the Weasleys and friends hike to Stoatshead Hill to catch a Portkey to the Quidditch World Cup. Molly clashes with the twins over contraband toffees, and Arthur explains wizard travel logistics. On the hill, they meet Amos and Cedric Diggory; an old boot Portkey whisks them to the Cup.
Summary
Mrs. Weasley wakes Harry, Ron, Fred, and George before dawn. In the kitchen, Arthur Weasley, dressed as a Muggle, checks World Cup tickets and discusses Apparition, warning about splinching. The twins grumble that older siblings can Apparate while they cannot.
Hermione and Ginny arrive as Arthur outlines why they must walk: large wizard gatherings risk Muggle attention, so arrivals are staggered and handled via Apparition sites, limited Muggle transport, and Portkeys. Molly discovers the twins smuggling Ton-Tongue Toffees and, using Summoning Charms, confiscates them, heightening tensions as the group departs.
The party treks through the chilly pre-dawn to Stoatshead Hill, where Arthur explains Portkeys—ordinary objects timed to transport groups. On the summit they meet Amos Diggory and his son, Cedric. Amos warmly recognizes Harry and embarrassingly boasts about Cedric’s win the previous year, despite Cedric’s protests that Harry fell by accident.
With a minute to spare, the nine gather around a moldy old boot—their Portkey. At Arthur’s countdown, they are yanked forward by the navel-hook sensation; Harry, Ron, and others tumble on landing, while Arthur, Amos, and Cedric remain standing. They have arrived for the Quidditch World Cup.
