CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO

Overview

Harry and Cedric arrive via Portkey in a graveyard, where a cloaked figure kills Cedric on Voldemort’s command. Wormtail binds Harry to Tom Riddle’s grave and prepares a cauldron ritual. Using bone of Voldemort’s father, his own flesh, and Harry’s blood, Wormtail restores Voldemort to full form.

Summary

Harry and Cedric land in a dark graveyard via the Triwizard Cup Portkey. Unsure if this is part of the task, they draw wands as a short, hooded figure approaches carrying a small bundle. Harry’s scar erupts in pain, and a cold voice orders, “Kill the spare.” Wormtail casts Avada Kedavra, murdering Cedric.

Wormtail binds Harry tightly to a headstone marked TOM RIDDLE and gags him. Harry recognizes Wormtail by his missing finger. Nearby lie Cedric’s body, Harry’s wand, the Cup, and the unsettling bundled creature. A huge snake circles the grave as Wormtail drags a massive cauldron to the site and kindles a fierce fire beneath it.

At the creature’s command, Wormtail opens the bundle, revealing a small, scaly, snakelike infant form with red eyes. He lowers it into the boiling potion. Wormtail begins the ritual: “Bone of the father, unknowingly given,” drawing dust from the grave; the potion turns poisonous blue.

He then cuts off his own hand—“Flesh of the servant, willingly given”—screaming as it falls into the cauldron and the potion blazes red. Finally, he slashes Harry’s arm—“Blood of the enemy, forcibly taken”—collecting a vial of blood and adding it. The potion flashes blinding white, then steams thickly.

From the steam, a tall, skeletal figure rises. Wormtail, sobbing and cradling his stump, robes his master. Harry stares into the white, skull-like face with scarlet eyes and slit-like nostrils. The ritual succeeds: Lord Voldemort has returned in full form.
