Overview
Diviners defy Zahhak’s plan to strip Kamran’s crown immediately, declaring they will first test his fitness to rule. They overpower Zahhak and whisk Kamran to the disused tower prison. Immobilized then released, Kamran is abandoned in solitary confinement, leaving his fate and claim to the throne in peril.
Summary
Kamran, magically immobilized, is dragged through the palace as he grapples with terror over losing his crown and identity. He steels himself for a public humiliation in the throne room and clings to a hope of later reaching Hazan and avenging his grandfather.
At a corridor split, Zahhak goes left while the trio of Diviners carry Kamran right. Zahhak protests, expecting the ceremony to unseat Kamran, but the Diviners state they only promised to test Kamran’s fitness. When Zahhak argues, their unified command forces him back with a gust, severing his control.
The Diviners race Kamran up the palace spires to the long-unused tower prison. As icy night air pours in through a high open skylight, Kamran realizes he faces harsh solitary confinement reserved for the worst criminals—an ordeal meant as a trial rather than immediate deposition.
They hurl him into the pitch-dark cell, slam the rusted door, and release the spell. Kamran collapses onto the freezing stone floor, left alone to endure the elements and uncertainty, his claim to the throne suspended pending this brutal test.
