The End — Chapter 45

Evangeline, Jacks, and Chaos return to the Valory’s arch. Chaos unlocks the trunk; Evangeline sets all four stones into the arch and seals them with her blood. The stone angels blaze and lower their swords, revealing a wooden door with a wolf-head knocker.

Testing the door, Chaos snips a lock of Evangeline’s pink hair, explaining he will use it to break the curses binding Evangeline and Apollo. As Chaos slips inside the Valory, Jacks abruptly turns vicious, insisting Evangeline leave and calling her a tool, shocking her and even surprising Chaos.

Alone with Evangeline, Jacks’s hostility cracks into raw fear. He admits Chaos hasn’t fed in centuries and cannot control his hunger, warning Evangeline she will die if she stays. Evangeline pleads for Jacks to abandon using the stones and come with her, but Jacks, visibly torn, insists they are not meant to be.

A thunderous roar erupts from within the Valory, shaking the room. Jacks orders Evangeline to go, choosing cruelty to drive her away for her safety. She wishes for a different ending; he refuses and demands she leave as the danger mounts beyond the door.
