8. Adam Morgan
Overview
Under guard at the station, Adam tries to call Sarah but reaches only voicemail and avoids confessing over a message. Pressed for time, he instead calls his mother, Eleanor, for help. The choice underscores Adam’s legal peril and the growing strain and secrecy in his marriage.
Summary
Escorted by Sheriff Stevens and shadowed by Deputy Hudson, Adam is led to a jail pay phone and ordered to keep it brief. Overwhelmed by the situation and guilt, Adam debates how to tell Sarah about his affair and arrest.
Adam dials Sarah’s cell, but the call goes to voicemail. Unwilling to confess infidelity and suspicion of murder over a message, he tries again and still cannot reach her.
With the officers pressuring him to finish, Adam abandons calling Sarah and instead phones his mother. Eleanor answers, and Adam tells her he is in trouble and needs help, signaling his desperation and shifting his immediate support away from Sarah.
