Overview

Walter covertly inserts Hunter, Rink, and Mercer into Virginia for Hunter’s high-risk plan to strike directly at the enemy instead of relying on Walter’s legal fallback. Hunter and Rink begin a stealth assault on a luxurious, heavily guarded riverside estate while Mercer stays back as driver and emergency cover. Hunter silently neutralizes two guards and reaches the house, but the mission turns precarious when a larger guard suddenly catches him from behind.

Summary

Three days after leaving Florida, Hunter, Rink, and Mercer reach a riverside estate near Williamsburg, Virginia, after Walter covertly gets them in on a Naval supply flight. From a van near the property, Hunter studies the house, grounds, helipad, and security pattern. He reflects that Walter has a safer fallback plan to expose Arrowsake, but Hunter prefers a riskier direct strike that could destroy the organization, avenge Sue Bouchard, and keep Walter and the team out of prison.

Before moving, the team settles their roles. Mercer, still not fully recovered, stays with the van as driver and emergency rifle support, while Hunter and Rink arm themselves with suppressed pistols, knives, radios, and dark clothing. After the lights inside the house dim, Hunter and Rink split up to approach from different directions, intending to avoid killing guards unless they have no choice.

Hunter crosses the road, slips over the low boundary fence, and advances along the fishing pond, using brush, terrain, and a paddock fence for cover. He checks the helipad, lets two distracted guards pass instead of shooting them, and closes on the house. When a coughing guard stands alone near the outdoor pool, Hunter decides the man is too dangerous to leave behind and silently takes him down, zip-tying and gagging him before hiding him on the riverbank and discarding his pistol in the York River.

Using the noise and distraction of drunken people inside the house, Hunter circles the pool and reaches an open ground-floor door. Inside, he finds another guard absorbed in a puzzle and knocks him unconscious before the man can react. Hunter throws that guard’s pistol into the pool and starts binding him while laughter and breaking glass upstairs show that the people inside still feel completely safe.

As Hunter secures the second guard, he barely notices a soft footstep behind him. He twists with his pistol ready, but a giant man clamps a hand onto Hunter’s shoulder before Hunter can fire. The stealth assault suddenly shifts from controlled infiltration to immediate danger.
