Chapter 27: Feyre

Overview

One month after receiving Polina’s studio, Feyre and Ressina open it as a free art space for children traumatized by the war. The arrival of ten wary children and their hopeful guardians confirms that Velaris needs this refuge, and that Feyre’s own healing through art can become a way to help others.

The studio’s launch also marks Feyre’s growing public purpose beyond ruling: she is building community, supporting artists, and creating a place where loss can be transformed into creation.

Summary

A month after Polina’s family gives Feyre the studio, Feyre and Ressina stand in the newly prepared space waiting for their first students. They have spent weeks cleaning, planning lessons, choosing colors, and arranging ten easels and stools in a circle. Feyre hangs her tapestry of Void and Hope as a reminder that creation can help people work through overwhelming loss.

Feyre worries that no one will come, but Ressina reassures her that the invited families promised to attend. Feyre reflects that Ressina has become a dear friend and that Ressina’s design skill has also made her valuable in planning the new river-house Feyre and Rhys intend to use for their growing court and family.

The students arrive: ten children, High Fae and faerie, accompanied by some parents, while others have no parents left after the war. The children are wary and uncertain, and the adults are hesitant but hopeful. Feyre recognizes that the studio must be a safe place for children who may not be able to speak about wartime trauma but might process it through painting, drawing, sculpting, or simply creating.

Feyre explains through reflection that Ressina quietly spread word through friends and acquaintances rather than advertising widely. The response has been overwhelming: families ask when classes begin and whether they cost anything, while artists from the Rainbow volunteer to teach. Feyre, Ressina, rotating instructors, and Aranea will offer multiple daily classes, all free, including supplies.

When the room fills, Feyre and Ressina exchange a relieved and nervous look. Feyre faces the gathered families in the bright, open studio, smiles, and begins the first class, turning Polina’s former studio into a refuge for healing through art.
