Chapter 6: Morrigan
Overview
Mor, Rhys, and Feyre visit the Hewn City and discover Keir meeting with Eris, confirming suspicious ties between the Court of Nightmares and Autumn. Eris’s presence triggers Mor’s traumatic memory of being tortured by her family and abandoned by Eris’s patrol centuries ago. The meeting also raises a political threat: Beron may seek access to the human lands through Tamlin’s weakened Spring Court.
Summary
Mor accompanies Rhysand and Feyre to the Hewn City, whose darkness still feels corrupt and suffocating to her. Feyre has cleared the throne room, leaving only Keir and Eris, the Autumn Court heir. Rhys claims they have come to offer Solstice greetings, but the real purpose is to confront the private meeting Azriel’s intelligence revealed.
Keir pointedly avoids addressing Rhysand as High Lord, and Mor corrects him with cold authority, though Keir ignores her. Seeing Eris forces Mor into a vivid memory of the day her family tortured and abandoned her near the Autumn Court border after her involvement with an Illyrian. Eris and his patrol found her, but Eris ordered his men not to touch her, saying that helping would make her their responsibility, and left her bleeding because he rejected any claim on her.
Feyre gently nudges Mor back to the present while maintaining her role as High Lady before Keir and Eris. Rhys challenges the secrecy of Keir and Eris’s meeting, and Keir dismisses the concern with false civility. Feyre questions Eris about the Autumn Court, and Mor struggles to stay composed under the weight of old fear, fury, and humiliation.
The conversation turns to Beron and the human lands. Feyre states that Beron is forbidden to cross into human territory, but Eris suggests the Night Court does not control that decision. Rhys warns that no court should attempt territorial expansion, and Eris counters that anyone seeking human lands would have to move through or secure permission from Tamlin’s Spring Court.
Although Mor wants to confront or humiliate Keir, her trauma silences her, and she recognizes Keir’s satisfaction at her inability to speak. Rhys ends the meeting and leads Feyre away. Mor follows them out of the Hewn City’s darkness, ashamed of her silence but choosing to leave Keir and Eris behind.
