Silla
Overview
Silla, still frightened of Artal after his past violence toward her, finds him drugged and naked in a Caravel room. Audeta reveals that Alys has helped arrange something that will punish or humiliate Artal without physically harming him, signaling quiet retaliation against his abuse and arrogance.
Summary
Silla remains tense at the Caravel because Artal Gremont has arrived with other nobles, laughing loudly and socializing with Joss Falconet. Since Artal previously hurt Silla badly enough that her wrist has only just healed, Silla avoids any chance of encountering him and slips away past Alys’s office, where Alys is meeting privately with a blond girl from the Hill.
Audeta calls Silla over and shows her into a room where Artal lies naked, drugged, and snoring on a bed. Audeta explains that the drug came from one of Alys’s brother’s potions and that Artal will not wake for hours.
Silla anxiously asks what Audeta intends to do to Artal, instinctively worried despite Artal’s cruelty to her. Audeta reassures Silla that no one will touch him, but says Alys expects Artal to discover what they have done to him only later, implying that the women of the Caravel have arranged a humiliating or consequential revenge.
