Elsabet sits alone in a dark temple, feeling the Source-Stone embedded at her throat. She recalls receiving her first stone as a child and becoming accustomed to the pain because the stones give her a rare family power. The current stone is weakening, and its strange flickering the night before makes Elsabet realize she will soon need a replacement.

Bagomer arrives and reports that the bodies have been found in the canal outside the Caravel, exactly where Elsabet ordered them left. He also tells Elsabet that he has directed Laurent Aden to the guard who will let him into Marivent so Aden can retrieve Princess Anjelica and take her to his ship.

Elsabet confirms the broader plan: if Laurent cannot persuade Anjelica to leave willingly, Anjelica will be killed at Marivent rather than in the sea caves. Elsabet also intends for Laurent Aden to die, dismissing his involvement with royalty as foolish romantic weakness.

Bagomer further reports that Seven's meeting is arranged for that night and that Seven has promised to take full advantage of it.
