CHAPTER 56: No Surprise

Overview

Nau Suen uncovers and annihilates Ven Haku’s coup plot at the Sin 8, executing Haku and most conspirators while exiling two survivors. The next day, Ayt Mada confronts Ven Sando, reveals Haku’s death, and forces the sale of K-Star Freight to a foreign buyer, sealing Ven’s fate and dismantling his family’s power.

Summary

At the Sin 8 nightclub, Ven Haku meets with five Mountain Green Bones to finalize a coup against Ayt Mada, planning to ambush and kill the Pillar. As doubts about allied Fists surface, several jade auras converge outside their suite. Nau Suen enters with eight Mountain enforcers, calling out Haku’s lies and heightened state.

When Ven Haku lunges, Nau’s men pin him; Waun Balu, Nau’s First Fist, saws Haku’s throat despite his Steeling. Two conspirators resist or flee but are contained at gunpoint. Nau denounces internal treachery and demands sworn fealty from the five surviving plotters. After gauging their sincerity, he orders three executed on the spot and exiles the two truthful men from Janloon to serve the Mountain elsewhere, under threat to their families.

The following morning, Ayt Mada arrives unannounced at K-Star Freight’s boardroom with Nau Suen, Iwe Kalundo, and enforcers. She presents a buyout: 51% to YGL Transport of Bursvik, 49% to Mountain-aligned Kekonese shareholders. Ven Sando refuses, claiming K-Star is indispensable and irreplaceable.

Ayt reveals Haku’s severed head in a box, naming Ven a traitor who colluded with No Peak. Ven breaks and pleads for his family. Ayt decrees death for Ven and his sons (with burial with jade allowed), exile for his wife and daughters, and compels the sale. Iwe guides Ven through the signatures, completing the transfer and ending the Ven family’s control and standing.
