Chapter Nine
Overview
Lily ends things with Ryan after learning of his affairs and leads a swift strategy to banish him, succeeding with a 6–4 vote. That night, Sam openly chooses Lily, and Tom engineers Vanessa’s expulsion by denying her a bed. Alliances harden as power shifts from Ryan to Lily, Sam, and the women.
Summary
Lily confronts Ryan in the orchard; he apologizes and admits to sleeping with Vanessa and Mia, and claims Tom slept with Sarah and Mia. Lily breaks with Ryan and confides in Jacintha, Candice, and Becca. The women quickly strategize to banish Ryan at the next vote and secure Sam and Carlos’s support.
When a task appears requiring a banishment for tennis racquets, the group votes. Lily secures Sam’s vote in a tense rush. The tally is six votes for Ryan and four for Lily. Ryan is banished; Lily coldly helps pack his things, and only the men walk him to the boundary.
That night Lily seeks Tom’s protection but instead tells him Ryan cheated with Vanessa. Tom denies it, then reveals he voted Ryan out, implying Lily is safe. The women brace Lily for the bed-sharing risk until dawn.
In the dark, Sam slips into Lily’s bed, reassures her, and they make love, shifting Lily’s emotional center away from Ryan. Near dawn, Tom wakes Vanessa and forces her to leave, refusing to escort her. He then rips the head off her teddy and returns to bed, while Becca lies tense and awake.
