Oro
Overview
Oro and Grim wait at Ferrar’s forge for Isla, planning to combine powers to banish Lark. Dreks’ cries suggest the battle continues elsewhere. Oro realizes Isla no longer needs them and may be sacrificing herself to circumvent a prophecy. Grim, alarmed, demands to know what prophecy Oro means.
Summary
Oro paces Ferrar’s forge with Grim, the Nightshade, while a nearby demon senses Oro’s anger. They await Isla, who told them to stay so they could use the forge’s enchantments to bind their powers and banish Lark once and for all.
Grim reiterates Isla’s instructions, but Oro grows uneasy at the delay. A screech from dreks outside cuts through the lull, contradicting their assumption that the storm is over. The continued threat signals that the fight elsewhere is still raging.
Oro suddenly understands that Isla does not need them to open or close the portal, because she carries their powers. He concludes she is executing a separate plan she hid from him, knowing he would detect a lie, and suspects it involves her self-sacrifice to outmaneuver a prophecy.
Grim, shaken and angry, demands to know what prophecy Oro means, as the implication of Isla’s solitary plan and the renewed drek activity heighten the stakes at the forge.
