5: Chris

Chris waits with Jesse and his rescued dog outside the surgical center for Mike’s wisdom-teeth procedure. Xavier wheels out a sedated Mike, and Jesse teases him on the ride home. Chris stays at Mike’s spotless house to monitor meds and reflects on Larissa and Mike’s unlikely match.

Larissa arrives unprompted with groceries, concerned Mike is alone. She adores the dog and proposes a plan to walk him midday so Chris can keep him. Relieved, Chris agrees to a trial, and they jokingly settle on the name Woofarine.

Larissa insists on checking on Mike despite his earlier request; he’s grateful but groggy. She starts homemade vegetable beef soup. While cooking, she and Chris swap stories and nicknames, and Chris recounts Mike’s protective high-school past. They eat, debate a book Larissa brought, and banter.

Larissa’s nut allergy itches after cleaning a board possibly exposed to peanut butter; she takes Benadryl and shows her EpiPen. She reveals discovering two more fraudulent credit cards in her name and likely needing to pay, underscoring her financial strain.

When Mike stirs, Larissa purees soup for him. Chris urges Mike to appreciate her effort. Realizing conversation must now include Mike and sensing his own outsider status, Chris says goodbye, takes Woofarine, and leaves Larissa caring for Mike.
