52: Chris

After a restorative three-day trip to Michigan, Chris reflects on two months of living with Larissa: deep happiness with her, but grief over losing their longtime friend group. They build quiet routines, grow Larissa’s Board & Sweet business, and keep their relationship private. Seeking change, Chris lands a higher-paying hospital pharmacy job and serves his last day at Bergmans.

Near closing, Mike arrives unexpectedly for a prescription. Chris prepares to be honest. Outside under a crab apple tree, Mike reveals he knows Chris and Larissa are together. He admits he failed Larissa, acknowledges Chris was better for her, and says he loves them both enough to want her happiness.

Mike shares that he’s sober, on a higher dose of antidepressants, and in therapy, confronting inadequacy and unresolved grief. He’s estranged from his mother and sister, working night shifts for Tony, and suggests Chris reconnect with Xavier and Jesse. He apologizes for not supporting Chris after Chris’s mother died and calls Chris—not Larissa—the great love of his life as a friend.

They hug, and Mike urges Chris to gather the friends; Chris agrees. As Mike heads to his truck, Larissa arrives unannounced. She and Mike speak briefly; he apologizes and she accepts, advising him to “take the exit that makes the most sense.” Mike leaves, emotional but lighter.

Chris recognizes a turning point: by letting go, he allowed Mike to carry his own load. With Larissa at his side, he sees the moment as an end and a beginning—healthier paths for all and a chance to rebuild friendships.
