Chapter 25
Overview
Blake and Pendragon seek intimacy, but Blake’s red dragon seizes control, turning passion brutal and nearly killing her. Blake wrests himself free, heals Pendragon with his blood, and confesses love as she drifts unconscious. Shattered by guilt, he leaves with Rodriguez’s book, vowing to end the dragon even at his own cost.
Summary
After leaving the ball, Blake and Pendragon tease and head to Blake’s room. Their tenderness escalates to hunger, and Pendragon invites both his bite and his body. As their passion deepens, Blake’s red dragon stirs, scales surfacing while Blake struggles to keep control.
The dragon’s possessiveness overpowers Blake, roughening his touch and driving him to claim Pendragon as a mate. Blake remains trapped behind the dragon’s impulses as it bites too deep, chokes her, and continues until her pulse falters. Wings burst into the room, wrecking furniture as Blake realizes he is on the brink of killing her.
Mustering his will, Blake forces the dragon back and tears his fangs free. He finds Pendragon barely breathing, pale and fading. With no remedies at hand, he opens his own wrist and lets his healing blood drip into her mouth, willing her to swallow and live.
Gradually, Pendragon’s pulse strengthens and her breath steadies. Blake, shattered by guilt, whispers that he loves her and promises never to harm or betray her again. He covers her carefully, patches the broken window as best he can, and forces his wings back despite the pain.
Resolute and carrying Rodriguez’s book, Blake slips into the hall. He vows to end the dragon’s control—and the threat within himself—even if doing so costs him his life.
