Blake escorts the stunned First Year Dani to her common room, noting multiple bite marks that reveal she has been shared among highbloods as a thrall. He resolves to send a Drakharrow healer and to follow up himself if she vanishes.

Haunted by the red haze after killing Lochlan, Blake fears he is losing control of his dragon nature and might one day hurt Medra (Pendragon). Determined to seek help, he goes to the Avari Tower to see Kage Tanaka, despite their rivalry.

Kage recounts that Nyxaris attacked the headmistress’s office: Professor Hassan was burned, Viktor vanished, and Kage intervened to protect Regan as Florence departed with Nyxaris. They discuss Regan’s new policies—blightborn curfews and incentivized blood donations—which are already fueling tensions.

Turning to House security, Blake and Kage agree to protect their own, involve Lysander, and recognize Florence as Viktor’s likely new target now that she is bonded to Nyxaris. They plan for Blake to warn Pendragon and Florence, with Kage as backup if needed.

When Blake admits he is an Infernus dragon losing control and forgetting his violence, Kage observes Blake is splitting from his dragon self and recommends consulting Professor Rodriguez for historical knowledge rather than standard shifting training. Tension flares over Pendragon’s status, and Kage warns Blake not to harm her; Blake agrees he would rather be put down than let that happen.
