Chapter 2
Overview
Blake reels from Medra’s punch and confronts his guilt over betraying her and endangering Nyxaris, revealing lasting injuries and his vampirism. He privately absolves Theo for Aenia’s death while grieving her loss. When Theo presses him about his absence and Visha, Blake admits he went to see Viktor, signaling new entanglements.
Summary
Blake absorbs Medra’s punch without resisting, accepting he earned her anger after betraying her in the Dragon Court and attempting to turn Nyxaris to stone. He reads Medra’s fury and grief, notes blood on the floor, and recognizes he has walked into chaos he doesn’t yet understand.
He catalogs his own changes—vampiric healing yet a missing left eye that may never return—and the fall from highblood golden boy to something monstrous. Despite longing for Medra, Blake holds back, believing he has no right to touch or even name her.
Theo breaks the charged standoff, asking after Visha and Blake’s whereabouts. Blake knows he should be present for his House but is mired in grief over Aenia, recalling vivid dreams and the daily shock of her absence.
Internally, Blake refuses to blame Theo for Aenia’s death, trusting Theo’s nature and intent, and instead pins his rage on Viktor as the true architect of their woes. Pressed again, Blake finally tells Theo where he went the previous night: to see Viktor, hinting at dangerous dealings to come.
