Flying alone through the wildfire’s cover, Zetian tracks nomad signal smoke and lands at a Hundun hole where an elder woman leads her through hidden tunnels. They descend into a freezing chamber lined with life-sized clay guardians and a curved golden wall that opens into the Yellow Dragon’s cockpit.

Inside, Zetian finds Emperor Qin Zheng alive, seated in golden armor, his skin marked by Water qi meridians and flowerpox. At the nomads’ prompting, she administers antiviral medicine while channeling Fire qi through needle-studded gauntlets to warm him. Qin Zheng revives, sealing his melting face with spirit metal as his qi cycles flare across all five elements.

Knowing she cannot survive paired with his overwhelming power, Zetian seizes leverage: the ongoing need for antivirals. She orders Qin Zheng into the yin seat, arguing the centuries since Zhou’s fall and the urgency to fight Hunduns. Shaken by the lost time, Qin Zheng yields; the armor shifts, and the nomads withdraw in reverence.

Grieving Shimin yet resolute, Zetian removes her Vermilion Bird armor but keeps her crown, then takes the yang seat behind Qin Zheng. She affirms Zhou’s fall and his duty to kill Hunduns. Needles pierce her spine as she links to the Yellow Dragon, embracing the overturned gender roles and the imminent, overwhelming connection as gold engulfs her vision.
