Chapter Seven: Into the Jungle
Overview
Zetian is dragged into Yang Guang’s subconscious jungle, where she discovers his pattern of seduction and brutality toward concubines. Resisting the mind’s lures, she destroys his child-self and confronts him in a yin–yang duel. By sheer will, she arms herself, breaks his defenses, stabs him, and seizes control of the Nine-Tailed Fox during combat.
Summary
Zetian awakens in a humid, oppressive jungle—Yang Guang’s mind realm—entangled in slimy vines and drawn by a child’s plea. Touching flesh-colored “fruits,” she is flooded with memories revealing Yang Guang’s repeated seduction and manipulation of concubines, escalating to violent assault. She recognizes the realm’s trap and fights to retain her identity.
When a child version of Yang Guang begs for help, Zetian rejects the lure. She strangles the child-self, collapsing the jungle as vines rot and the memories sink away, even as the realm tears her apart.
Zetian then appears in an abstract yin–yang arena, separated from armored Yang Guang by a boundary. He chains and prostrates her, reading her intent to kill him. Realizing the realm is shaped by will, Zetian summons matching spirit armor and breaks free, identifying her dominance in Metal qi.
She draws a dagger from her chest, shatters Yang Guang’s barrier, and overpowers him despite his warning that killing him will doom them mid-battle. Zetian pins him by the throat and stabs his neck repeatedly. As his control falters, her senses merge with the Nine-Tailed Fox, and she asserts control of the Chrysalis on the chaotic battlefield.
