Chapter 10
Overview
On the drive from Noelle’s trailer, Georgia confronts Jess about secretly demolishing her barn and paying for a new garage. A misunderstanding about Jess’s motives threatens their trust until he affirms he chose Georgia, not the farmhouse, and plans to use Ben’s $50,000 for the garage. They spend the night together, deepening their relationship. Afterward, Jess reveals his mother’s debilitating lapses, his absent father, estranged sister, and forbids Noelle from babysitting Rowen.
Summary
Leaving Noelle’s trailer, Georgia confronts Jess about hiring Ryan to tear down her barn and start a garage without asking. Their argument escalates when Jess explains the farmhouse’s importance to him, which Georgia misreads as him using her for the house. Jess clarifies he’s with Georgia because he wants her, not the property, and admits the farmhouse gave him purpose after a rough childhood.
Jess insists on paying for a new garage, planning to use the $50,000 Ben left him, framing it as taking care of “his girls.” Georgia resists but ultimately relents. To move forward, she asks him to stay the night.
Back at the farmhouse, after Georgia hustles Rowen to bed and Maisy leaves, Georgia’s insecurity spikes. Jess reassures her through intimacy, and they have sex, which affirms their compatibility and eases her fears. They connect again, further cementing their bond.
In quiet pillow talk, Jess describes Noelle’s mental lapses, frequent injuries, and a past incident where she nearly froze—context for his caretaker nature. He shares his sister Felicity moved to Seattle years ago and that their father left when Jess was eight. He concludes by forbidding Georgia from ever letting Noelle babysit Rowen, setting a firm boundary to protect the child.
