Chapter 14
Overview
Lucy and Bridget road-trip to Summerside, triggering Bridget’s nostalgia and Lucy’s concern about the looming wedding. At Shack Malpeque, Lucy and Felix share restrained chemistry while Bridget fields a tense call. Lucy finally apologizes to Felix for last year’s abrupt exit, reopening a connection and reinforcing the secret tension threatening Bridget’s wedding plans.
Summary
Lucy and Bridget drive to Summerside for coffee after Bridget loses patience with Green Gables crowds. The ride becomes a Bridget nostalgia tour—old schools, homes, and a first boyfriend’s house—while Lucy probes Bridget’s unease about the fast-approaching wedding. Bridget slips, saying “supposed to,” then retreats, and Lucy recalls a recent fight over dieting and body image that exposed Lucy’s work-first tendencies.
Lucy gently invites Bridget to open up; Bridget affirms trust but withholds details. Lucy texts Lillian from Cena about a meeting until Bridget insists she unplug. They head to Shack Malpeque, now expanded, where Felix is shucking oysters. Lucy and Felix keep things light with Bridget present, but their glances crackle with unspoken history.
After the lunch rush, Bridget and Lucy move to the patio. Lucy tries to reschedule the meeting with Lillian as Bridget steps away to take a call, likely from Miles. Felix arrives with oysters and onion rings. Watching Bridget talk at a distance, Lucy and Felix share an awkward pause that Lucy breaks with a long-delayed apology for last year’s abrupt departure after he cared for her.
Felix accepts, softening, and reminds Lucy she owes him breakfast, hinting at a tentative renewal. Bridget’s return halts the moment, leaving Lucy more worried about Bridget’s silence and the precarious balance between friendship, secrets, and the upcoming wedding.
