Chapter 29
Overview
Bridget leaves a note: she’s meeting Miles in Charlottetown and has booked Wednesday flights. Alone together, Lucy and Felix spend a tender, sensual day that shifts into emotional openness.
They trade personal histories, discuss Felix’s breakup with Joy, imagine a future, and agree they want more than sex.
Summary
Lucy and Felix return to an empty house and find Bridget gone with Zach’s and Felix’s trucks missing. A note explains Bridget is meeting Miles in Charlottetown and has booked Wednesday morning flights for Lucy and herself. Felix is tense but affectionate; they decide to give Bridget space and head for a shower together.
That afternoon, they drive the Mustang for fish and chips, sharing easy intimacy and small rituals like ketchup on fries. They discuss the looming departure and decide Felix will stay with Lucy in Toronto for the wedding. On the way home they buy oysters and nestle on the deck, deepening their connection through playful talk and quiet affection.
They exchange personal details—favorite color, numbers, middle names—and imagine traveling to Australia together someday. Lucy asks about Joy; Felix recounts a long, serious relationship that culminated in a public proposal and a painful breakup, but says there’s nothing left between them. He hints that he’s seeing someone now—meaning Lucy.
Felix states he wants more than sex. Lucy admits she needs to go slow and must tell Bridget, and Felix reassures her he can go at her pace. Later, they curl up under island-made wool blankets, flirt and tease about appearances and wedding outfits, and continue their physical and emotional closeness.
In the TV room, desire resurges. Felix reiterates, “we’re more than this,” promising to take things slow, while Lucy, in the moment, chooses passion. Their evening confirms mutual commitment to something deeper as Bridget’s situation with Miles remains unresolved.
