Chapter 11
Overview
Four years earlier, Lucy’s boss announces In Bloom will close, pushing Lucy into uncertainty. Lucy retreats to PEI with Bridget, where renewed attraction to Felix resurges through shared chores and a sandcastle near-miss. Amid Clark family warmth, Christine reframes Lucy’s setback as opportunity, and Felix’s quiet care deepens their charged connection.
Summary
In a four-years-ago flashback, twenty-five-year-old Lucy feels on track—thriving at the flower shop, enjoying casual dating, and living comfortably with Bridget—until her aunt and boss, Stacy, reveals she will close In Bloom by year’s end to pursue her own happiness. Devastated, Lucy accepts Bridget’s plan to bring her to PEI for a reset.
Felix picks them up at the airport, exuding new confidence and easy charm. Lucy intends to keep her distance, but she can’t ignore his transformation and their persistent spark. Bridget explains Felix’s swagger comes from flirting with tourists and sharing his local recommendations list.
Household chores throw Lucy and Felix together. Assigned grocery runs and dinners, they share small intimacies—like his hand over hers while teaching knife skills—interrupted by Bridget’s warning. Their proximity keeps amplifying the attraction Lucy tries to resist.
During the Clark family sandcastle competition, Lucy and Felix partner up. When their drawbridge falters, Felix covers Lucy’s hands to steady it; a charged, near-kiss moment follows before Lucy pulls away, collapsing the castle and signaling her slipping resolve. She counts down the two remaining days until departure.
The next morning, after a whiskey-soaked bonfire, Lucy is hungover and vulnerable. Amid the Clarks’ teasing warmth, Christine urges her to view the shop closure as a potential opportunity rather than defeat. Felix wordlessly tends to Lucy with water and ibuprofen, deepening their unspoken connection as she tells herself she only needs to hold out one more day.
