Chapter Twenty-Six: Renew

In Leander’s basement pub, Lark signs the Covaci contract on Damian’s behalf, effectively closing the deal she orchestrated. Leander toasts Lachlan’s retirement, bantering with both of them, until Lark reveals she has drugged his beer and he collapses. Lachlan warns her about drugging his boss again, but they leave Leander sleeping and head out.

During the drive, Rowan texts about Christmas plans, prompting Lark to ask whether Fionn will come. Lachlan is unsure, and the topic lingers as they return home. Lachlan hints at an early birthday present and directs Lark to a hidden safe behind a Constantine poster, unlocked with a movie-reference code.

Inside, Lark finds curated trophies from her past, culminating in a clear resin cube containing Dr. Louis Campbell’s heart wrapped in gold wire. The sight overwhelms her; she cries and thanks Lachlan, finding a measure of closure for her trauma.

Lachlan then points her to a manila envelope with a prebooked Indonesia honeymoon itinerary—and divorce papers. Dropping to one knee, he explains he’s giving her a genuine choice: dissolve their arranged marriage or recommit on her terms. He admits the marriage began as protection and asks her to choose the future she truly wants.

Lark, torn but resolute, rips the divorce papers and declares she’s madly in love with Lachlan, forbidding him from offering divorce again. Lachlan slips a diamond band on her finger, and they affirm their mutual choice to remain married and pursue love together.
