Summary
On Monday, 1 July, Josie is back at work listening to Heart FM through headphones while trying to block out the noise of sewing machines, trains, colleagues, and a customer. The music makes Josie feel grounded and certain after a weekend that remains blurry to her.
Josie spent most of the weekend in bed after fleeing the café and returning to Walter. Walter told Josie that she had a summer cold, cared for her, brought food and drinks, and looked after Fred. Although Walter urged Josie to stay home, Josie wakes feeling normal and chooses to go to work.
During Josie’s break, she makes hot chocolate and messages Alix to apologize for Saturday, explaining that she had a summer cold and may have been delirious. Josie says she is fine now and offers to meet the next morning.
Alix responds kindly, saying Josie did seem out of sorts and inviting Josie over if she feels up to it. Josie eagerly accepts, reestablishing contact and setting up their next meeting.
