Overview

DC Albright returns the objects Josie stole from Alix’s home, giving Alix a chance to reclaim pieces of her family life after the violence and manipulation Josie caused. A later Netflix-style epilogue reveals that Josie sent Alix a letter after the podcast, still denying responsibility, blaming others, and recasting herself as the victim.

The letter confirms that Josie remains free, obsessed with Alix, and unable to accept the truth about her crimes. Its mention of Leon leaves a final note of menace even as Alix tries to rebuild with her children.

Summary

In late October, shortly before the second national lockdown, DC Albright contacts Alix because police are closing most of the investigation and clearing evidence. DC Albright brings back the small items Josie stole from Alix’s home, praises Alix’s podcast for its insight into Josie, and says the publicity has produced many false tips but also a few leads, including a possible sighting in Northampton.

After DC Albright leaves, Alix opens the bag and confronts the discomfort of where the objects have been and what Josie used them to imply. Alix decides that reclaiming the items matters more than revulsion, so Alix restores them around the house: Eliza’s drawing, the magazine receipt, the Nespresso pod, the teaspoon, the hand soap, and Leon’s passport photographs.

The last returned object is the gold bracelet Nathan once gave Alix for her birthday. Remembering Nathan fastening it on her wrist, Alix asks Leon to help put it on. The small domestic act becomes a moment of reassurance, and Alix holds Leon close as Leon confirms that Alix, Leon, and Eliza are “good.”

The chapter then shifts into a Netflix documentary-style sequence about Alix’s story. It reveals that on 2 November 2020, two months after the final podcast episode, Alix received a letter from Josie.

In the letter, Josie attacks Alix for the podcast, insists that Josie gave Alix the truth, dismisses Erin and Roxy as liars, and denies deliberately killing Nathan. Josie claims Nathan’s death was an accident caused by increasing the dose when he became too noisy, then frames herself as misunderstood by a broken world.

Josie closes by suggesting fate may bring Josie and Alix together again and sends love to Alix’s children, especially Leon, with the unsettling instruction to keep Leon safe. The documentary notes that, by the time of broadcast, Alix has not heard from Josie again.
