Summary
Alexis jolts awake, gasping, locked in sleep paralysis and wracked with pain. Still in her wedding toga beneath silk sheets, she registers deep snores in the cavernous room and realizes she lies in a decadent bed with both of her new husbands, Augustus and Kharon.
Memories of their smug expressions resurface, stoking a blaze of hatred in Alexis’s chest. She resolves that they will not get away with tricking her and silently vows to make them pay.
As her anger crests, Alexis feels two new cords—scorching chains—coil tighter around her heart: the marriage bond responding to her displeasure. Augustus and Kharon moan in their sleep as the bonds transmit her wrath, and Alexis recognizes that the consequences of marrying a monster have begun—this time, for them.
