Overview
Sloane and Lucian’s fragile reunion fractures over “drawer space,” pushing them to Emry, where they confront the wound of Sloane’s 911 call and Lucian’s fear of becoming his father. Lucian apologizes and commits, but Emry urges time and proof over promises. Sloane remains cautiously skeptical.
Summary
Sloane, still staying with Lucian four days after Anthony Hugo’s arrest, banters with friends by text before getting ready for dinner at Lucian’s. In his apartment, a playful mood turns tense when Lucian accuses Sloane of not committing because she won’t unpack or make space for him.
Lucian abruptly takes Sloane to Emry, his therapist friend, and frames the issue as her refusal to commit. The argument explodes into their unresolved past: Sloane’s 911 call years ago led to Lucian’s arrest, leaving his mother vulnerable and cementing his path. Sloane counters that she acted to stop Lucian from turning into his abusive father and to protect him from a path he couldn’t return from.
Prompted by Emry, Lucian admits he’s long blamed Sloane, yet recognizes she repeatedly stood between him and danger. He reveals his fear of “broken men breaking women,” his trauma over failing to protect his mother and Sloane, and the sound of Sloane’s injury haunting him. Sloane affirms he isn’t his father and praises his quiet generosity and self-control.
Lucian shifts from blame to accountability, apologizing for blaming Sloane and for poor communication, and declares he wants only her. Emry advises patience and deeper rebuilding rather than grand gestures, challenging Lucian to prove consistency over time.
Later, group texts with Naomi and Lina underscore Sloane’s lingering distrust despite Lucian’s promises, her anxiety over time and fertility, and the friends’ support. Lina announces her wedding next week, adding a light note amid the emotional reckoning.
