52. Arcady: Magic Versus Nature

Rushed by carriage toward the mountains, Arcady feels the Elixir and her bond amplifying her magic and confidence, though she still cannot reach Everen. Dropped in a quiet, blight-touched forest near the Fangs, she arms herself with hidden blades despite the magic-only trial and follows mage lights toward the first challenge.

At a raging river, Arcady uses Kalsh water-weaving to raise a temporary dam while bolstering herself with Aura warmth. The current nearly overwhelms her; she dives, claws to the shallows, and survives as the spell collapses. Instead of being drained, the Elixir leaves her merely tired. She claims the first bronze token on the far bank.

Confronted by a towering thicket of thorns, Arcady chooses fire. She ignites a straight corridor, then wrestles the blaze back with air-starving commands, snuffing it in a final surge. Heat-scorched but unharmed, she crosses the ash, secures the silver token, and presses on, drawn forward by a visceral pull toward Everen.

The path leads into Atrel, Arcady’s former mountain village, now a burned husk from the Strike. Sorin arrives from the opposite road, revealing she used Jari magic for her obstacles. They compare paths and speculate others may have quit. Arcady shares that she once lived here in hiding, hinting at her parents’ secret work. The mage lights point to a trail her parents forbade; believing it marks the third obstacle, Arcady and Sorin steel themselves and take the dangerous route.
