Overview

Piper comforts a shaken, recovering Jason, affirming his judgment with a Cherokee parable and strengthening their bond. That night she dreams of the giants gathering at the Acropolis, where Porphyrion reveals Delphi is taken and boasts of Thoon’s destiny to kill the Fates.

Porphyrion confirms Mimas awaits the demigods in Sparta. Annabeth wakes Piper upon arrival, prompting Piper to share this urgent intelligence.

Summary

On the Argo II, Piper keeps her cabin door open to avoid Buford’s chaperoning wrath while Jason visits before guard duty. Jason, still recovering from his gut wound, thanks Piper for keeping him alive on Ithaca after facing his mother’s mania and admits fear of making fatal choices like hers.

Piper counters with a Cherokee parable about taboos and trusting instincts, arguing Jason recognizes and resists his own darker impulses. Their moment is lightened when Leo interrupts to collect Jason for duty, and Jason departs reassured.

Exhausted, Piper falls asleep and dreams of the Acropolis. She witnesses numerous giants crowding the Parthenon—Otis, Ephialtes, Polybotes, Enceladus—and the late-arriving Hippolytos reporting demigod movements. Porphyrion erupts from the earth, dismisses the news, and declares the heroes’ blood will wake Gaea on the Acropolis.

When the giantess Periboia questions the location, Porphyrion insists the Parthenon’s symbolic power will amplify their victory. Enceladus announces Delphi is seized and the future closed; he presents Thoon, a frail-looking giant fated to kill the Three Fates and destroy their loom, ending prophecy itself.

Porphyrion proclaims destiny now belongs to Gaea’s children and notes their brother Mimas waits in Sparta to confront the demigods. Piper awakens to Annabeth, who says they have reached Sparta, and Piper urgently prepares to share her vision.
