Chapter Twenty-Two
Overview
Tiyung and Hana press south through monsoon rains toward Qali, debating whether to warn Yusan about the Weian fleet and deciding to wait. Hana receives word that Nayo is safe and withholds another source’s message. She pushes Tiyung to form a concrete plan to confront his father, tying it to saving Sora and the realm.
Summary
On the Coastal Road in Yusan, Tiyung and Hana struggle southward through relentless rain. Tiyung’s worsening cough and the empty roadways underscore urgency after witnessing signs that a war of realms is imminent.
Tiyung suggests warning the king’s guard at Trove about the Weian fleet. Hana argues against it, noting Yusan’s weaker navy and the risk of endangering their friends if Sora and the others are aboard the Weian ships. She points out wartime pragmatism and possible shifting loyalties involving Joon, advising restraint until they know more.
At messenger houses, Hana checks for letters. She receives two: one from Nayo confirming he is safe and far from Tamneki, and another from an unnamed source that she does not share. The uncertainty reinforces their decision to avoid premature action.
Turning to their goal in Qali, Hana presses Tiyung for a plan to confront his father. Tiyung admits he has none beyond revealing he is alive. Emphasizing that Sora’s life—and potentially the realm’s fate—depends on him, Hana insists they craft a real strategy. Tiyung agrees to work with her on a concrete approach before reaching Qali.
