Summary
On a skiff in the West Sea, Sora recites funeral prayers for Daysum yet feels numb, fearing she is broken. Aeri silently offers comfort, and the group—Mikail, Fallador, Royo, and Gambria—pushes hard along the coast with the Water Scepter, their white sail masking their unnatural speed.
They enter the Tan River toward Rahway. Royo scans for pirates, sparking friction with Gambria, which Sora defuses. Passing Speculator triggers Sora’s memory of assassinating Brookson Veil for Seok and her harrowing escape through the fast current, reinforcing how Seok shaped her worst moments.
Considering rumors that Count Seok may seize Yusan’s throne, Sora reasons the monsoons delay coronation and decides Seok must be killed before he’s unreachable in Qali Palace. Her grief hardens into resolve as she thinks, “I’m coming for him.”
The skiff reaches Lake Garda at dusk, revealing Rahway’s sandstone sprawl amid high waters. Mikail conceals the Water Scepter within a walking stick, and Aeri hides the Golden Ring and Sands of Time beneath a modest dress. They dock, wary that Count Rune could betray them, but accept the risk out of necessity. Sora applies Oxerbow to her lips, preparing for danger.
