Chapter Twenty-Seven
Overview
Mikail seeks out Fallador, and their guarded rapport deepens as they discuss Gambria’s betrayal and Mikail’s unresolved grief for Euyn. A near-intimate moment is shattered when Sora attacks Mikail, accusing him of concealment. She reveals Tiyung’s death, blindsiding Mikail and escalating tensions within the group.
Summary
In the late afternoon at the Rahway villa, Mikail tracks down Fallador after learning Gambria has left. He invites Fallador for a walk through the manicured gardens, both avoiding eavesdroppers and the subject of Gambria while testing each other’s trust.
As they stroll, Fallador apologizes for Gambria’s actions and frames her betrayal as love clouding conviction. He urges Mikail to acknowledge his grief for Euyn, offering himself as someone to share the burden. Their conversation exposes Mikail’s doubt about Fallador’s sincerity, even as an undeniable pull draws them closer.
When Fallador brushes Mikail’s fingers, the moment is interrupted by Sora charging down the path in a fury. She attacks Mikail with a dagger, accusing him of knowing something he denied. Mikail and Fallador restrain her, and the knife falls away.
Sora, shaken and weeping, names the source of her rage: Tiyung is dead. Mikail, genuinely unaware, is stunned by the revelation, leaving the trio in shock and deepening the fractures among their allies.
