CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE
Overview
Harry, Ron, and Hermione reach Hogwarts via a secret tunnel from the Hog’s Head and find Dumbledore’s Army hiding in the Room of Requirement. Neville describes the Carrows’ brutal regime, and allies rally. Seeking a Ravenclaw relic, Luna guides Harry to the Ravenclaw common room, where Alecto Carrow ambushes him and summons reinforcements.
Summary
Neville escorts Harry, Ron, and Hermione through a concealed passage from Aberforth’s pub to Hogwarts. He recounts the Carrows’ rule: compulsory Muggle Studies propaganda, Dark Arts lessons including enforced Cruciatus practice, and punishments that left students like Neville and Seamus battered. He explains D.A. resistance, Luna’s kidnapping, his grandmother outwitting Dawlish, and how the Room of Requirement became a secure refuge supplied through the tunnel.
Inside the expanded Room of Requirement, the trio reunite with many D.A. members. News of the Gringotts break-in spreads jubilation, but Harry is struck by a searing scar pain as Voldemort discovers another destroyed Horcrux, forcing urgency. Harry insists they cannot stay to fight, causing friction as Neville and others expect a school-wide uprising.
More allies arrive—Luna, Dean, Ginny, Fred, George, Lee, and Cho—after Neville’s summons. Pressed by Ron and Hermione, Harry agrees to seek help identifying a Hogwarts object linked to Ravenclaw that could aid Voldemort’s downfall. Luna suggests Ravenclaw’s lost diadem, long missing. Cho offers to show its likeness in the Ravenclaw common room statue; Ginny steers Harry to go with Luna instead.
Under the Invisibility Cloak, Harry and Luna slip from the Room of Requirement, avoid patrols using the Marauder’s Map, and reach the Ravenclaw entrance. Luna answers the eagle knocker’s riddle, and they enter the serene, empty common room. Harry studies Rowena Ravenclaw’s statue and reads the diadem’s inscription, but Alecto Carrow appears, mocks him, and immediately presses her Dark Mark to summon allies.
