Overview

Harry and Luna subdue Alecto Carrow, prompting Amycus’s arrival and a confrontation that brings Professor McGonagall to Harry’s side. McGonagall binds the Carrows, summons the staff, and duels Severus Snape, who flees the castle. Hogwarts raises defenses and begins evacuation as the Order and D.A. assemble; Percy reconciles with his family while Ginny is kept from the battle. Voldemort closes in on the school.

Summary

In Ravenclaw Tower, Luna Lovegood Stuns Alecto Carrow just as Harry’s scar reveals Voldemort approaching the Horcrux cave. Amycus hammers at the door until Professor McGonagall opens it, learns Alecto summoned Voldemort, and refuses Amycus’s plan to blame students. When Amycus spits in McGonagall’s face, Harry reveals himself and successfully casts the Cruciatus Curse, then warns that Voldemort is coming and asks about Ravenclaw’s diadem.

Recovering, Amycus is immediately placed under McGonagall’s Imperius Curse; she binds both Carrows and resolves to secure the castle while Harry searches on Dumbledore’s orders. Harry explains the secret passage to the Hog’s Head for evacuations. McGonagall sends Patronus messages to the Heads of House and leads Harry and Luna into the corridors.

Severus Snape confronts them, probing for Harry’s presence. McGonagall attacks; Snape’s swift defenses turn her spells into serpents and daggers, drawing Professors Flitwick and Sprout into the fight. Snape smashes through a window and escapes as a batlike shape into the night. Harry’s scar shows Voldemort leaving the cave; McGonagall orders immediate fortifications and evacuations.

Flitwick casts powerful protective enchantments while Sprout gathers plants for defense. McGonagall warns Slughorn to choose Slytherin’s loyalties and animates the school’s statues and armor to man the boundaries. She dispatches students to the Great Hall and sends Harry and Luna back to the Room of Requirement.

There, the Order of the Phoenix and D.A. have assembled. As battle preparations surge, Molly Weasley forbids Ginny from fighting; after debate, Ginny is allowed to remain in the Room of Requirement but out of combat. Percy Weasley arrives, repents, and reconciles with his family. Harry cannot find Ron and Hermione; his scar sears again, showing Voldemort approaching Hogwarts with murderous intent.
