Overview

Snatchers capture Harry, Ron, and Hermione and deliver them to Malfoy Manor, where Bellatrix tortures Hermione and suspects the trio robbed her vault. Luna, Ollivander, Dean, and Griphook are found imprisoned below. Dobby rescues the captives; Wormtail dies; Griphook declares the sword a fake. Amid a chandelier crash, they escape to Shell Cottage, but Bellatrix’s thrown knife fatally wounds Dobby. Meanwhile, Voldemort murders an old prisoner while pursuing a powerful wand.

Summary

After Hermione jinxes Harry’s face to disguise him, Snatchers led by Greyback seize Harry, Ron, and Hermione for saying Voldemort’s tabooed name. They find Gryffindor’s sword and a newspaper photo of Hermione, realize whom they may have caught, and decide to take the prisoners to Malfoy Manor rather than the Ministry.

At the manor, Narcissa has Draco try to identify Harry, but he hesitates. Bellatrix arrives, panics at seeing Gryffindor’s sword, and, fearing a Gringotts breach, Stuns the Snatchers. She orders the prisoners to the cellar except Hermione, whom she tortures for information about the sword. Below, Harry and Ron meet Luna, Dean, Griphook, and the weakened Ollivander; with Luna’s help and Ron’s Deluminator they free themselves.

Harry glimpses a vision of Voldemort confronting an old, imprisoned wizard, demanding knowledge about a wand. Harry summons help via the mirror shard, and Dobby Apparates into the cellar. Dobby takes Luna, Dean, and Ollivander to Shell Cottage, then returns. When Wormtail checks the cellar, Harry appeals to the life-debt; Wormtail’s silver hand briefly relents, then strangles him for his hesitation.

Upstairs, Griphook, brought to verify the sword, declares it a fake, relieving Bellatrix, who summons Voldemort. Ron and Harry burst in; Bellatrix seizes Hermione at knifepoint, forcing them to surrender. As Voldemort speeds closer, the chandelier crashes—triggered by Dobby—creating chaos. Harry disarms Draco, Stuns Greyback, and, with Ron, scrambles to escape with Griphook and the sword.

Harry grasps Dobby’s hand and Disapparates to Shell Cottage as Bellatrix hurls a silver knife. They arrive by the sea; moments later Harry discovers Dobby has been mortally struck. The free elf dies in Harry’s arms, having saved them, while Voldemort, enraged by being summoned, has just killed the defiant old prisoner in his own pursuit of a powerful wand.
