During the interview, Molly outlines emergency preparedness and defends public health amid pandemic backlash. Flashbacks recount March 2020: a ventilator shortage prompts Molly to broker 3-D-printed splitters through Professor Walker, where she first meets detective Jesse. Their masked texts lead to a park picnic, growing connection, and later, in early 2021, Molly secures an extra vaccine dose for Jesse’s immunocompromised sister, Kate, rekindling their relationship and accelerating intimacy and cohabitation.

Back in the present, Molly reveals her pregnancy to colleagues Miguel and Toby, insisting on continuity of duties. A routine ob-gyn visit triggers anxiety over a quad screen until new receptionist Georgia calms her. That night, she and Jesse reconnect physically and emotionally, sharing fears about the unknown.

As November turns, Molly’s screen results come back normal. Planning to rest, she’s duped by a fake emergency into a surprise baby shower thrown by Jesse and her team. Surrounded by family and friends, Molly feels the baby kick, sealing a moment of collective safety and hope amid ever-present risks.
