Chapter 51
Overview
Ibrahim and Kendrick methodically review the storage facility’s CCTV. They confirm no one touched locker 531 between the murders and Elizabeth and Joyce opening it, eliminating post-murder interference. Checking the previous day, they spot a helmeted motorcyclist at the locker, narrowing the timeline and surfacing a new prime lead.
Summary
Ibrahim, recovering in bed, teams up with Kendrick to analyze CCTV from the storage facility. They divide days to scan, focusing on the period after Douglas and Poppy’s supposed murders. As they watch, Ibrahim opens up about the mugging, admitting lingering pain and fear, while Kendrick asks candid questions and shares school and family thoughts.
They fast-forward through the days after the twenty-sixth. The footage shows routine comings and goings but no one approaching locker 531. When Elizabeth and Joyce appear on the recording, Ibrahim slows to normal speed: the pair struggle with the lock, retrieve the crisp packet, and leave. Crucially, no one else has tried the locker in that window.
Unwilling to stop, they review the previous day’s footage. Midway, a figure in motorcycle leathers and a closed helmet walks directly to locker 531 and stops. The discovery suggests an unknown visitor accessed or inspected the locker before the murders, tightening the timeline and pointing to a new suspect or accomplice.
