Summary
Medra summons Nyxaris to a secluded hill and takes to the air with him to speak privately. She recounts the dossier’s revelations about his past, omitting threats against her body and freedom. Nyxaris flies in heavy silence, his anger and confusion mounting as he absorbs the implications.
When Nyxaris finally responds, he says this is not the truth he sought, revealing raw anguish over memories of fire and blood that he cannot fully place. Medra apologizes but insists she had to tell him, while privately withholding details linked to her own safety. Pressed by Nyxaris, Medra admits she does not know what to think yet reaffirms her promise to uncover what happened to him and the others.
The admission steadies them both: Nyxaris laments how rare a kept promise is, and Medra quietly reframes him as more ally than adversary despite his possible crimes and her own tainted lineage. Talk turns to the looming Tribunal evaluation, where Medra must prove mastery over Nyxaris to survive.
In a decisive shift, Nyxaris commits to helping her, saying he remembers enough to convince the Tribunal that Medra controls him. Medra accepts, moved and relieved, as their flight climbs into the night with a tentative, strengthened pact to face judgment together.
