CHAPTER 27 - MEDRA
Overview
Nyxaris completes the evaluation with ease, then defies Viktor and Catherine’s demand for submission by trapping the Tribunal in fire, destroying carriages, and declaring Medra and her allies under his protection. En route back, masked highbloods ambush the group; a silver wolf saves Medra, who is stabbed. Returning to the carriage, they find Aenia feeding on Theo, escalating personal and political peril.
Summary
Nyxaris performs aerial maneuvers and precise fire demonstrations for the Tribunal. Medra spots Florence beside Catherine and Blake, with Aenia present as leverage. After the tasks, Viktor and Catherine demand Nyxaris submit. Medra approaches as Nyxaris orders, then he encircles the Tribunal with fire, terrifying them and demonstrating he will not bow.
Through Medra, Nyxaris warns that harming her will trigger lethal retaliation. He incinerates the carriages as a final warning and extends protection to Medra’s companions, including Florence and Aenia. With tensions high, Nyxaris departs and Medra rushes to evacuate with Florence, Jia, Visha, Theo, Blake, and Aenia in a carriage, Blake riding alongside.
On the road, masked highbloods ambush, killing the horses and driver. Blake and Visha engage at inhuman speed while Medra joins with a dagger. A massive silver wolf bursts from the trees, mauls attackers, and repeatedly shields Medra. During the melee, an assailant stabs Medra; she staunches the wound as the wolf continues to fight despite being bolted by a crossbow.
Medra signals Nyxaris, who turns back and hunts the fleeing stabber at her request. Blake carries Medra to the carriage. Inside, they find Jia and Florence terrified, Theo collapsed, and Aenia feeding on Theo’s neck, revealing a fresh and dangerous complication for both families and the fragile alliances around Medra.
