CHAPTER 2 - MEDRA
Overview
Viktor confronts Medra in her locked room, assaults her mind, and interrogates her about awakening Nyxaris. Medra withstands him with new thrallguard, lies strategically, and asserts only she can command the dragon. Her defiance forces a stalemate until Blake interrupts, leaving Medra still imprisoned but newly leveraged.
Summary
Medra, confined in Drakharrow Tower, is surprised when Viktor Drakharrow—not Blake—enters her locked room without knocking. His oppressive presence precedes a sudden mental attack. Medra braces, strengthens her mental walls with thrallguard, and endures pain but keeps him out, provoking his frustration. Viktor slaps and threatens torture, establishing his intent to dominate.
Switching to interrogation, Viktor demands to know how Nyxaris awoke. Medra offers a calculated partial truth, tying the awakening to earlier school tremors and claiming Nyxaris thanked her. She admits Miss Pansera once used thrallweave on her and that the faculty trained her in thrallguard, which enrages Viktor, who believes blocking him should be impossible. He speculates her touch on the stone dragon created the bond; Medra lets him believe it.
Pressing the core issue, Viktor asks if Medra can control Nyxaris. Medra asserts that Nyxaris will return to her and that only she can bring him to heel, warning that harming or pushing her risks losing the dragon. Viktor escalates with physical intimidation and explicit threats of unending suffering if she fails the house.
As the standoff peaks, Blake appears at the door, noting Medra’s bloodied lip. The interruption forces Viktor to withdraw, though he sneers as he leaves. Blake closes and locks the door again, leaving Medra isolated but having asserted crucial leverage: Viktor needs her to secure Nyxaris.
