Two weeks earlier, after Sara's late-night visit and a phone call home, her boss Amber reprimanded her. Dr. Vernon had complained about Sara's growing attachment to Milo, and Amber reassigned her to the opposite side of the unit, banning her evening visits. Sara, ashamed and afraid, hadn't seen Milo since, though she missed him terribly and worried about his stalled recovery, his postponed skin graft, and his pain.

From the nurses station, Sara hears Milo shouting in his room. Dr. Vernon emerges acting strangely cheerful while Kym looks shaken. Vernon flirts with Sara, asking her out for Valentine's sushi, but she rebuffs him. After he leaves, Kym reveals that Vernon removed Milo's morphine button two days ago without prescribing replacement pain medication, only entering the prescription that morning. Kym also tells Sara that Milo asked for her by name, but Vernon lied to Milo, claiming Sara had requested reassignment.

Furious, Sara is encouraged by Kym to go see Milo while Vernon is gone. Sara brings his morphine and apologizes for disappearing. Milo, hurt but relieved, asks her not to leave him again. Sara confesses the reassignment wasn't her choice, and Milo says he already suspected Vernon was lying.

Before taking his morphine, Milo pushes through his pain to confess he's awkward, inexperienced with women, and has a serious crush on her. He vows to tolerate Vernon because he won't give Sara up. Sara admits her own feelings and acknowledges she can no longer be his nurse. As the morphine takes effect, Milo asks about her Valentine's Day plans, and Sara replies she'll be sneaking into his room.
