Epilogue

Overview

In a flash-forward epilogue, Sara recounts her love story to her friends at a spa, revealing she and Milo are married with a son, Hudson, and that Milo still resents her mother for briefly marrying Greg Vernon. Updates show Denny is sober and helping addicts, and Luna is a successful reporter getting married. Sara and Milo reconcile at home beneath the glow of the tea light Luna once gave him, affirming their life together in the Jamison Valley.

Summary

Years later, Sara finishes recounting her love story with Milo to her friends Sabrina, Felicity, Emmeline, Maisy, and longtime coworker Gigi at a spa. She reveals the latest source of tension: Milo refuses to forgive her mother Abby, who married Greg Vernon six months after Sara moved to Prescott. Though that marriage ended within six months and Abby apologized, Milo has never let it go. Sara herself has softened, maintaining a distant but cordial relationship with her mother, who now wants to meet her grandson, Hudson.

Sara updates her friends on other loose ends. Denny cycled through rehab and relapse until a strict judge mandated longer treatment; he has now been sober three years, works helping other addicts, and is planning a visit. Luna lives in LA, reports for the Times, is engaged, and asked Sara to be a bridesmaid. Sara reflects that her romance is the tamest among her friends' wild stories, but they all share love.

Returning home, Sara finds Milo apologetic at the door, promising to be civil to her mother. They reconcile, exchanging apologies, and Sara notes how his old burn scars have faded. Milo reports that their son Hudson is asleep. They settle on the couch, where Sara notices Milo has turned on the tea light Luna gave him the day they met, displayed on their bookshelf.

Sara tells Milo she shared their story with the girls, calling it a trip back to the Candle Palace. When he asks if she misses her old life in Spokane, she answers without hesitation that she belongs in the Jamison Valley with him and Hudson.
